SUMMARY

Speech/Language Pathologists are communication specialists who work with both the general education and special education population with language, articulation, fluency and voice delays/disorders.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Administer screenings to identify language, articulation, fluency, and voice delays/disorders according to the student’s age.
  • Collaborate and proved informal training related to communication delays/disorders to school administrators, classroom teachers, and parents during the pre-referral process.
  • Assess and diagnose language, articulation, fluency, and voice delays/disorders.
  • Participate as leader or member in evaluation and IEP team meetings.
  • Develop, implement, case manage, and maintain special education files and paperwork according to IDEA guidelines.
  • Implement individualized programs of therapy at school, daycare, or other designated sites.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies to meet individual student needs.
  • Provide information, support, and carry-over programs to parents, families, and teachers of students with communication delays/disorders.
  • Attend and participate in staffings/meetings.    
  • Monitor hearing aids and auditory trainers for students with a hearing impairment in their respective buildings.
  • Participate in team decisions regarding the selection and development of assistive technology including augmentative and alternative communication systems.
  • Assist with Kindergarten Screening.

SUPRVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises students, Speech/Language Implementers, and Speech/Language Paraprofessionals.

 

EDUCATION and/or  EXPERIENCE

Master’s degree in speech/language pathology.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Certification from the State of Missouri in Speech Pathology.  DESE certification and Board Healing Arts Certification are needed for filing Medicaid.  CPR and fist aid training are mandatory and will be provided by employer.

 

EVALUATION: 

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

Nine-month employee on twelve-month contract.  Salary to be established by the Board of Education.
