SUMMARY: Safely operates student transportation vehicle in a safe and careful manner, transferring students to and from school, school activities, and provide shuttle services as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned as needed)
- Drivers are responsible directly to the Assistant Superintendent in cooperation with the district’s bus mechanic/director.
- Drivers will be responsible for following all transportation laws, rules and regulations, district policies and procedures, and bus discipline consequences.
- Drivers assume major responsibility for the safety of children on the bus conforming to safety regulations.
- Driver shall be required to complete a daily pre and post trip inspection of the bus and turn those forms in to the head mechanic.
- Drivers will be responsible for the cleaning and general appearance of the bus for which they are assigned. Drivers will also clean bus daily and wash bus at least monthly.
- Drivers must call the bus mechanic/director when they are ill or require a sub for their route.
- Drivers are responsible for keeping their bus fueled.
- Drivers must be willing to accept in-town or out-of-town activity/athletic trips as assigned.
- Drivers shall keep route maps and a listing of students on their bus and report any changes in their routes immediately to the district office.
- Drivers are to report damages to the interior of the bus to the mechanic/director.
- Drivers are to maintain discipline when students are on the bus. Report behavior problems and student damage to the mechanic/director and/or the appropriate principal.
- Drivers are to follow their assigned schedule, arriving at school with students no earlier than necessary and discharging students only at authorized stops.
- Drivers are to notify the mechanic/director in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Drivers will exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
- Drivers will transport only authorized students as per the mechanic/director and dispatcher.
- Drivers will report all accidents and complete required reports.
- Drivers will enforce regulations as specified in the Bus Driver Handbook.
- Drivers will be responsible for other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent in cooperation with the bus mechanic/director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise children getting on and off the bus as well as while in transit.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 21 years of age.
- Possess a valid Class B, CDL Missouri driver’s license with School bus endorsement.
- Complete an annual physical examination by a licensed Doctor of Medicine within 60
days prior to the date of employment. Applicants with previous heart related conditions will not be considered for employment.
- Prefer minimum of two years’ driving experience.
- Successfully completed the Missouri Certified Bus Drivers Training Program.
- Have a safe driving record.
- No addiction to the use of alcohol or narcotic drugs; random drug testing will occur.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Must have a high school diploma or GED. Minimum two years driving experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: CPR and first aid certification is mandatory and will be provided by employer. Each bus driver will be required to have an annual physical exam that meets all health requirements for driving.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Recommended for employment by the Assistant Superintendent. Nine Month Year (172 days), Salary in accordance with board policy and contract.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by Director of Transportation and Assistant Superintendent.
