SUMMARY: Responsible for planning instruction and/or adapting the educational program to enable the students with an individualized educational program to benefit from educational experiences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Instructs students in individual and small groups in direct skills instruction.
- Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs using best practices.
- Evaluates/Monitors student progress in and outside of special education rooms.
- Maintains contact and has a good working relationship with parents of students with IEP’s.
- Communicates with regular education teachers to inform them of student needs, learning styles and obtain/evaluate progress monitoring data when necessary..
- Serves on district committees as assigned.
- May participate in Co-Teaching classroom opportunities.
- Provides case management of students including drafting, coordinating appropriate team members and conducting annual IEP meetings to meet state and federal guidelines and timelines.
- Provides case management of students including drafting, coordinating appropriate team members and conducting initial evaluations and re-evaluations to meet state and federal guidelines and timelines.
- Accommodates students individual needs on the State and District Wide Testing as directed by the IEP.
- Observes confidentiality regarding students and staff when communicating to others.
- Communicates with Special Services Director and/or Process Coordinator with any concerns or special education questions.
- Problem Solve with parents and school staff when a student with an individualized education plan is experiencing difficulties.
- Evaluates paraprofessionals that work under their supervision.
- Observes all policies, rules and regulations of the Board of Education as stated in the Board of Education policies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students and paraprofessionals that are assigned to their rooms.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Teaching certificate for the State of Missouri in Special Education and/or qualifying score on the Gateway Exam to be considered Highly Qualified.
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine month employee; salary to be established by the Board of Education.
